Kinesiology taping is the new buzzword in sports medicine. You probably noticed a lot of the athletes at the London Olympics wearing this brightly coloured tape.

 

Kinesiology taping is a rehabilitative taping technique that is designed to promote the body’s natural healing process, while providing support and stability at the same time to the soft tissues of the body and the joints, without restricting range of motion. It works by encouraging facilitation of lymphatic drainage by microscopically lifting the skin. This lifting affect helps form distortions in the skin, increasing interstitial space and allowing for a decrease in the inflammatory process.

 

The tape used is Latex-free, waterproof, 72% cotton and can be worn for up to 5 days.
